MOLDOVA UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2025

Dear Tom, Sandra, and church family.

Today, I have a special request to ask for your prayer support. On Saturday, July 26, 2025, a tragedy struck our organization. My colleague Moisei was returning with two of out volunteers — Benjamin (17 years old) and Mihai (15 years old) — from a day center where they had been serving children in a camp and doing construction project.
Everything was going well until suddenly, when they were travelling on the road, a van coming from the opposite direction lost control and crashed directly into their vehicle. The impact was so strong that both vans were completely destroyed beyond repair. miraculously — our boys survived, though they were severely injured. Unfortunately In the other vehicle, a young female passenger died there, and the male driver later passed away in the hospital from his injuries. We ask for prayers for their families too.
There is to be a police report in this situation about responsibility. Our vehicle has been wreckage and cannot be repaired, but we are so thankful our young boys are alive.
Moisei has suffered fractures in both legs. He will undergo surgery. Benjamin experienced a severe concussion and injuries involving his internal organs, along with numerous deep cuts to his face and body from shattered glass. But the one who suffered the most is Mihai — he has multiple leg fractures, he requiring many hours of surgery to reconstruct his legs using metal bars and plates. He will have to remain bedridden for six months, after which doctors are hopeful that he will walk again and fully recover.
We greatly need your prayers and encouragement right now. We trust that God will strengthen and restore each of them. I would like to kindly ask if we may use the 500 euros we received from the church, to help support the boys’ family — specifically to cover the costs of medications and other essential needs for Mihai Moshei and Benjamin. Their parents have already paid for many things, for medical examinations, surgery, and various other hospital expenses. Your support would be a great help in easing this heavy burden on the family during such a difficult time. I know you are always willing to help our children but I wanted to come to ask you first.

8th September. Dear Tom, Sandra, and church family,
The situation with the boys is more stable now. Moise and Mihai, the ones with their legs in casts, still need long-term treatment. If we could somehow support them financially so they can continue getting the necessary medications it would be such a blessing.
In our last report we talked about children’s dental needs—we have managed to cover everyone who asked for help, and except from one more child, there are no other urgent dental problems just now, and we hope to assist with this child very soon.

Now I wanted to share with you about a family we know who has taken children from the orphanage into their home and cares for them with much love. Recently, they asked me if I knew where to find encyclopedias. One of the boys, who joined their family three months ago, hardly speaks, spends a lot of time alone, and is finding it difficult to adapt. But not long ago, the parent noticed him reading an encyclopaedia about birds they had at home. He studied it with great interest, and when the mother asked him about birds, he eagerly answered. For the first time, there was a spark in his eyes. Now the parents are hoping to get him more books like this to help with his adaptation. These books are not cheap, so they asked me if there might be a way to help. They also shared that the children are in need of winter shoes. If you would like, I can find out more details and also ask for photos of the children. I had an emotional discussion with this lady and she spoke of the many challenges with this big family. This boy with glasses- Ilia, Now he has 17 years. But he has some mental disability. And also needs surgery for his eyes and new glasses. He will starts to study in a special school On Monday these parent will come to Chisinău and we will go to check when they can make surgery for his eyes. This boy need some books - enciclopedie. All this children are from orfanage

(Glasses and surgery for llie) €370 4 orfan children needs shoes . 270 eu , because one pare is special
Thank you so much for always being close to us with your prayers, love, and support. It means more than words can say.
MOLDOVA "FAMILY FUND" APRIL 25

Hello dear Tom, Sandra and church. We give thanks to God for your continuing support for our families and children.

In this time we will be helping for the next step of the tratament for the children with whom you helped in December. The 3 children of one family who suffer mental illness. Now they finished the first step of treatment and they investigate to see the progress. Of this investigation I will inform you.

Another project is to help a family to buy a cow. There are 4 children in this family and they live in the village. It is hard now for the parents to find the work . But if they have a cow they will have good food. Milk maybe some cheese.

We divided your last assistance of 500 euros into 4 parts:
1 part went to purchasing treatment for the children we helped in December (200 euros).
The second part was used to help a boy with a knocked-out front tooth - to restore and repair the remaining tooth’s (150 euros).

We allocated 75 euros to twin children for kidney examinations and a consultation with a private doctor, as they have congenital kidney dysfunction and their condition was worsening despite long-term state treatment. Both parents try to work, but it has been very difficult for them to earn much during the long winter months, so they requested us assistance.
The remaining 75 euros we want to hold in reserve in case the twins need help with medication.

Recently we had a meeting to discuss to help the family buy the cow,
but it costs over 1000 euros. So we will assisted the family in buying a couple of goat instead, as they are easier to care for and less expensive to purchase.

We now see many children in the day centers who need dental help. It’s like a global crisis. Right now, three children urgently needing treatment to save their teeth.
We have already helped two children from the “ family fund. “
For the third child, we are still looking for funds, as for this child the problem is more serious and the required amount is higher.
—————- —————-

In the last months I have been working 3 days in the south of Moldova for family fund.
I have 2 more request for help for families.
Here we have a child story and ask for help.

Munji Caterina is a remarkable young girl, full of energy and dedication. An 8th-grade student, … about 13… she has stood out for her intelligence and perseverance, being selected to represent her school at the district level multiple times. Always resourceful and with a natural leadership spirit, Caterina has shown that she can face many challenge.

However, we recently received some heartbreaking news – about Caterina, she is suffering from serious knee problems and needs an expensive surgical intervention. The diagnosis is a meniscus tear, and the cost of the operation is 12,000 lei, with 1,200 lei for tests, and additional therapy expenses, bringing the total to around 15,000 lei. “around €3000 “ This is a difficult time for her and her family, but we are praying that God gives her strength and complete healing.

Behind this strong girl is a story of hard work and dedication. Caterina comes from a modest family, where her parents work hard to support their children. Alongside her two older brothers, she helps with the household chores and assists her parents on their small farm, where they raise five cows. She loves animals and doesn’t shy away from any task, whether it’s feeding the cows or taking care of daily chores.

Beyond her responsibilities at home, Caterina is an active presence in the community. At the day center, where she joyfully attends each time, she has become a real support for others. She eagerly takes part in every activity, organizes games, coordinates Bible lessons, and helps the younger children learn about faith. When she first began coming to the center, she knew almost nothing about prayer or studying the Scriptures, but over time, she has become a true example for the others.

The center leader describes her as an irreplaceable helper, a key support in organizing activities. She has a strong character, fit for a true leader, and manages to complete everything she sets her mind to.

Now, as she goes through this difficult trial, our hearts and thoughts are with her. We pray that God grants her health, strength, and blessing, so that Caterina can continue to be a support to her family, to her community, and to everyone who knows her.

The girl's parents attend church, so far only attend. I think they are on the way to believing in Christ as the savior and a source of love. The small church is in the village and the children attends a day center at the church.

if you need more information let me know and I will ask for more information.

Many Blessings Olya Bortal

MOLDOVA YFC UPDATE NOVEMBER 24

Hello Tom, Sandra and Church.

This week we had training with churches and I heard a story about three kids from one family.

We discussed with a colleague some issues regarding this particular family.
Three out of the four children in this family are diagnosed with mental health disorders.
The children require long-term, consistent treatment.
Their mother has periods of heavy drinking, although currently, she is sober.
However, she does not understand the importance and necessity of this treatment; she believes these medication are just mild sedatives that will simply help the children sleep and make them a bit more obedient.

In reality, the situation is much more complex, and all three children need treatment for three to six months.
We anticipate that the mother will not be able to consistently monitor and ensure the treatment, but the day center workers are willing to take responsibility for overseeing the medication, The problem is cost of the medication is €80 per month for all three children. A minimum of three months of treatment would be €240. This treatment can have a lifelong impact on the children’s health, so it is crucial to dedicate time, resources, and attention to this matter. In hope to see improvement for these children and for this whole family.

Our thank you to your church family.

We are really thankful that this year we were able to support some of the most vulnerable children. We bought 10 school bags and all the stuff for the school to help the children for one year!
The joy at these children was really big. They said: you have to send all our greetings and blessings for these wonderful people!

Kristina girl with tumour. now has started a new medicine. We hope she will be better. But now she still has health problems. We have to wait for two weeks and we will see the results.
Another of the problem is the price of these medicines.
She has enough for this first week, The big prayer need is for this period and for the possibility to buy medicines for the next period.

Andrei girl with Polyps in nose now breathing better but now still have problem with kidney, we still trying to help find cause of this illness.

And this baby who also have some health problems with kidneys, They need to make some expensive examination. I do not know the price of this examination but I will call the medical centre and I will ask.

MOLDOVA YFC UPDATE - JULY 24

Just a short update this month. I just discuss with churches about family needs. Now the main problem it stays with school bags and stuff for the children. In the Taxobeni church (Cristina's village) they have 8 children from 3 families who really need help to buy clothes for the school and school bags with stuff for the studying. This problem we have not completed. In the winter time we will have more needs. At this time now, some parents find working in the lands and they have more possibilities to make money for their food and some needs. Please pray for our children.

Our love to you and your church family.

MOLDOVA UPDATE MARCH 24
Hello, dear Tom and Sandra. It's time for a new report on the work done. Lately, more and more messages are coming about that children don't have shoes, or they wear one pair for two or three brothers. We decided to spend part of the money received in the family fund on the purchase of 20 pairs of new sneakers for children from three day care centers. Monday will be the day when we give out sneakers and shoot a video of this event.

We spent the other part of the money on the examination and treatment of the girl Andreea 13 years old we wrote about earlier. She found a bigger problem than she had in the beginning. At the moment, she is undergoing bronchial and nasal treatment, and in mid-March, an operation to remove polyps in the nose will be performed. But now it’s found she has damaged kidneys and that need to be treated. This is a new challenge for this family.

In addition, we received a special donation for shoes for brothers with problem feet. We ordered the shoes at the beginning of February, this has been a long waiting because of the war everything is more difficult but we will pick them up on March 7 and then we can send a photo.

The news for Cristina the girl with brain tumur, she was going well after the surgery to remove the tumur but now she is having problem again. Now she is in the village, there she working with People from the village but her health is not very good her epileptic seizures are occurring more and more often and even during work And she really wants to work and to grown-up. She is undergoing various examinations in both Moldova and Romania. doctors say that in the place where the tumor was removed, tissue began to grow again, this is very difficult for her and family.

Thank you and your Church for your love and caring for our families of Moldova. Please also pray for our situation it is not very calm, because of Transnistria Putin threatens all of us because of this land

MOLDOVA YFC UPDATE - NOVEMBER 2023

We discussed with our team about needs of our children's families. It is two main needs: To help 20 children to buy shoes for the winter period and a family story. It is a little long but really interesting. Hope you will enjoy it!

It is a sensitive and difficult situation for 13-year-old Andreea Lae, who attends the day center in the village of Hăsnășenii Mari, Drochia district. She comes from a dysfunctional family and currently lives with her mother and two younger sisters. They are a socially vulnerable family, with the only source of income being social assistance and support from the local church.

Her mother has been actively involved in the day center at the local church for some time, maintaining cleanliness and assisting the workers there with whatever is needed. This hasn't always been the case. Andreea used to go to the day center, where she was warmly welcomed by the staff, and was able to prepare her lessons, eat, and learn many things about God. This motivated her to invite her mother to church and then to come together to the day center. How beautifully God works in their lives!

Unfortunately Andrea suffers from nasal polyp affects her ability to breathe normally, which can negatively impact her quality of life and health. Unfortunately, limited access to financial resources makes treatment a major challenge for the family.

With the help of donations, the aim is to ensure a thorough consultation and surgical intervention to address the nasal polyp issue, allowing Andreea to breathe normally and improve her quality of life. Additionally, the remaining amount from the donation will be used to purchase clothes for the three girls or to procure firewood during the winter.

Say Hello to your church members.

MOLDOVA YFC UPDATE - JULY 2023

We discussed with Vitalie and our coordinators about ideas. We have two ideas: 1. To buy 50 schoolbags and we will give them to the churches and encourage them to fill it and to donate to the most needed children from the day centre!  2. To buy many pencils, notebooks and other staff for the school needs. During the school time (9 months) the church workers will give to the children when they will need it!

Moldova information and prayer. January 2019.

Thanks for the mission Sunday collections. Providing €920 to go to the Family Fund in 2018

€340 went towards first Skin graft surgery for 12 year old Sorin. Soren’s recovery after surgery was very painful and upsetting for her and her family. They have decided to delay the next surgery until later this year in the hope Sorin will recover well and want to continue.

€340. For surgery to Ioni’s ankle. Ioni can now walk properly and is looking forward to football. Just before Christmas he told Olya one of our contacts at YFC that you have changed his life.

€240. Went towards winter shoes for 120 children
This included 13pairs of boots for disabled children.
The total bill for shoes this winter was €2600 Olya did a great job of getting the boots and shoes at a discount prices from the market trader she went to last winter.
These boots are in great need for the children as there is a lot of snow In the outlying villages.

Someone from one of the village churches told of the sad story of a 60 year old man and his 16 year old son who are extremely poor. The people of the church helped them find a rundown house and the father and son have been working to make it habitable, unfortunately this place doesn’t have a stove / fireplace/ chimney and they were freezing in the -10 nighttime temperatures.
Our friends at YFC have had a meeting about this and they have got a team together to build said fireplace.

We continue throughout 2019 in aiding the Family Fund over this difficult time winter time with food packages.

Remember these people in your prayers.

This is Maria with her brother Sasha who is severely disabled with cerebral palsy. They are 19 year old twins, for the past 4 years since Maria left school she has been her brother’s carer as their mother has to work each day for them to survive. A language tutor programme has been set up for Maria so that she can attend at night when her mother is home to look after Sasha. Maria wants to study and her hope is to become a translator.

This is the same boy Ioani that had the surgery to this ankle last year, although he can now walk his condition is not as hopes. After such a long time without surgery Ioni now has one leg shorter and that foot smaller than the other. He will need further surgery in the future to correct this.

Good afternoon, dear church, we want to thank you for your regular involvement in the lives of the beneficiaries of our organization. Ion, whom you have touched last times, is now preparing for the winter, they made him a heating stove, filled the floor with concrete, plastered the walls and plan to install windows. The guy himself, despite his limited abilities, understands that it is necessary to prepare firewood. he walks into the forest and carries one log of firewood. the church undertakes to cut the wood and provide warm food not only during the summer, but also in the winter.
In the project, children at risk have many different activities - summer camps, a children's festival. The first time we are trying to organize a joint event with children from different centers for fun general educational activities.
We got the first such experience in the south of the country on June 24-25 for 165 children: despite the weather conditions - pouring rain, we managed to give children joyful moments and a fun day in their lazy holidays. next events will be on July 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 for 17 day centers.

Good news about the children getting the shoes. The video is of the shoes at only one of the day centres. There were again around 100 pairs of shoes bought for the children. Some are from a second hand supplier to keep the cost down.
Olya also said that she had wanted to visit Sylvia’s family  (Sylvia is a young girl with cerebral palsey ) but was unable to because of Covid. The operation was due in Kviv Ukraine but once again postponed because of the war. She and her family need our prayers.

Moldova Update January 2023
Hello my dear friend!!!! This December is blessed one - we could help 16 families.
For one family with 6 children we bought hitting woods and special food for the baby twins and another 15 families: we help a church to prepare Christmas party for the 15 children with disabilities and for their parents.  we prepare the good program, food packages and some sweets for the children.
Soon I will send you some pictures from this event.
In November we helped 3 families - we helped to bay some medicines for the children!
Thanks to the help of your family and your church - we were able to provide extensive assistance to families in dire need thus children and their parents felt what is the Real Love of Christ in this pre-Christmas magical time!!!!
I think after new year we will check the situation in our families.  It can be necessary to by some woods or something else for the fitting in houses.  The hitting is the most biggest problem now in Moldova.
