About Our Church

Javea International Baptist Church (JIBC) was inaugurated in December 1995 as an offshoot of the Spanish Baptist church in the neighbouring town of Denia. The church seeks to serve the spiritual needs of the ever-increasing English speaking international population in Javea (or Xabia as known locally in Valenciano) and the surrounding area. The population figures are in a constant state of flux as the area is developed in line with much of the Costa Blanca coastline. It is estimated that there are approx. 30,600 registered residents in Javea, of which some 14300 are registered as Spanish. The registered British population is about 5000 (figures as of 2025 Spanish National Statistics Institute). However the figures are clouded by the fact that much of the accommodation is only occupied by holiday makers or home owners visiting second properties. This reflects the desire of many foreign nationals to spend time in this beautiful part of Spain when the population can triple during the holiday season. .

Javea itself is a charming Spanish town, with an attractive port and a large sandy beach, which is only really crowded at Easter and during the months of July and August. The adjacent Montgo mountain offers commanding views of the rugged coastline and breathtaking sunsets in the nearby Jalon Valley, resplendent with almond and olive trees and countless orange and lemon groves. This part of Spain is commended by the World Health Organisation as one of the best places to live and many retirees have taken up residencies here.

Our church attendances reflect much of the demography referred to above and is often in excess of 85.  The Church membership currently stands at 50 as we are enjoying steady growth since the beginning of 2024, across all ages. A quiet revival perhaps? The growth has seen new attendees for all age groups including young families and young people. There are many other regular attendees whose commitments in their home countries prevent them from playing a permanent part in the life of our church. Besides our welcome holidaymakers, who might come from various parts of the world, our regular congregation includes British, Irish, Dutch, Ukrainian, American, Cuban, Russian, and German in origin. The backgrounds of our congregation are varied, with several having previous connections to Baptist, Anglican, Methodist, United Reform, Catholic, Elim Pentecostal, Brethren and other denominations.

JIBC is a wonderful family of like minded Christians who enjoy worshiping, praying & praising to our Lord Jesus Christ. The fellowship looks forward to you joining them and becoming part of the family here in Javea.
